Poor A K Hangal

Famous Film actro A K Hangal is very sick. Yesterday I had been with him at his residence. Unlike other heroes, he spent all his property in social cause. He was active in Marxist Movements. At present he is alone in his 2 rooms block & without bank balance. Instead of begging he asked to reprint his biography which is out of print. See more info about him on wikipedia.

BILL GATES, founder and chairman of Microsoft, has literally changed the work culture of the world in the 21st century, by simplifying the way computer is being used. He happens to be the world's richest man for the last one decade. However, in the 70's before starting out, he was a Harvard University dropout. The most ironic part is that, he started a software company (that was soon to become Microsoft) by purchasing the software technology from "someone" for only $US50 back then.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN received no more than 5 years of formal education throughout his lifetime. When he grew up, he joined politics and had 12 major failures before he was elected the 16th President of the United States of America.

ISSAC NEWTON was the greatest English mathematician of his generation. His work on optics and gravitation made him one of the greatest scientists the world has even known. Many thought that Isaac was born a genius, but he wasn't! When he was young, he did very poorly in grade school, so poor that his teachers became clueless in improving his grades.

ALBERT EINSTEIN was a theoretical physicist widely regarded as the most important scientist of the 20th century. He was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics for his explanation of the photoelectric effect in 1905 and "for his services to Theoretical Physics". However, when Einstein was young, his parents thought he was mentally retarded. His grades in school were so poor that a teacher asked him to quit, saying, "Einstein, you will never amount to anything!"

STEVEN SPEILBERG is an American film director. He has won 3 Academy Awards an ranks among the most successful filmmakers in history. Most of all, Steven was recognized as the financially most successful motion picture director of all time. During his childhood, Spielberg dropped out of junior high school. He was persuaded to come back and was placed in a learning-disabled class. He only lasted a month and then dropped out of school forever.

Religions are not above Criticism- Mumbai HC

In a significant ruling, a three-judge bench of the Bombay high court on Wednesday held that - in India, criticism of any religion -- be it Islam, Hinduism, Christianity or any other -- is permissible under the fundamental right to freedom of speech and that a book cannot be banned on those grounds alone.

The ruling was given with reference to an appeal by an author RV Bhasin who questioned the banning of his book Islam - A Concept of Political World Invasion by Muslims. by the Maharashtra Govt.

While the court admitted the RIGHT of Indian citizens to CRITICISE religions, it however still upheld the ban on Bhasins book saying...
The book contained "aggravated form of criticism made with a malicious and deliberate intention" to outrage the feelings of Muslims

It is good for us to know that....the court unequivocally declares..
"in our country, everything is open to criticism and religion is no exception. Freedom of expression covers criticism of religion and no person can be sensitive about it."

Well, the rider is "without outraging the FEELINGS of the religious"

The Seed (Story)

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business..Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. "The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Everyday, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure

Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however. He just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection. Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. .But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful -- in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him! When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives

Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees, and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!"

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!"

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed - Jim told him the story.
The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive Officer!

His name is Jim!" Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed.
"How could he be the new CEO?" the others said.

Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow. All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!"

Astrology is false.....

Predict Lok Sabha results and win Rs 25 lakh!
From rediff.

May 14, 2009 13:05 IST

Putting astrologers to test, a Kolkata-based non-governmental organisation has promised a reward of Rs 25 lakh to any soothsayer who predicts the result of Lok Sabha polls before counting begins on Saturday.

"We have put two questions before them. First, they have to foretell exactly how many seats will be acquired by major political parties. Secondly, they have to predict the margin of victory or loss of big leaders like Sonia Gandhi [Images], L K Advani [Images], Mamata Banerjee [Images], Lalu Yadav [Images], Ram Vilas Paswan," said Prabir Ghosh, chief of the Science and Rationalists Association of India.

However, no astrologer has come forward to accept his challenge so far, he said while sounding confident that none would ever approach him.

"It is because they knew they are not going to win as their predictions are always wrong," Ghosh claimed, while asserting that astrology was 'unscientific' and "can never predict anything correctly".

SRAI was established in 1985 to fight superstition, godmen and astrologers.

He claimed that even in the past, more than a thousand astrologers had publicly lost the challenge after being invited by him to predict the future.

"At least in Kolkata, I don't think there is an astrologer, whose effectiveness I have not proved to be zero," the 64-year-old crusader against soothsayers and godmen told PTI.

"We would close down our NGO and stop all our activities against them, if they prove us wrong this time," he said, while admitting that his NGO does not have Rs 25 lakh it has announced as prize money.

"If ever we need that much money, our well-wishers and supporters have promised to help us out," he added.

1) Such challanges were given frequently. But no astrologer accepted it! Why?
2)In astrology moon and sun are planet. 3rd, 4th std child will not believe; but well educated fools accept such false info.

Sinners are afraid of Light

Here sinners means antisocial, harmful, corrupt ... people; while there is no religious references. Light means knowledge, openness, truth ...
I read a news in The Nation. It is---

Burma's Govt afraid of Mobiles & Internet!

The Paris-based media watchdog, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) published a report entitled "Enemies of the Internet", which named Burma as one of 12 countries that actively practices censorship and restricts freedom of speech on the Internet.

"The 12 enemies of the Internet … have all transformed their internet into an intranet in order to prevent their populations from accessing 'undesirable' online information," the RSF report said.

Last September, which was the anniversary of the revolution led by Buddhist monks, the Oslo-based Democratic Voice of Burma (DVB) website and two others leading websites (of the Chiang Mai-based Irrawaddy magazine and Delhi-based Mizzima) were attacked by unknown hackers. Most possibly by Burmese Govt from Burma's West Point cyber city. There is full-scale electricity supply and hi-speed Internet connections at Napyidaw (the country's official capital city) and the West Point cyber city. Whereas in all parts of the country faces severe scarcity of it.

A number of the students and activists were sentenced to 65 years in prison for violations of the electronic law, meaning that they had used cellphones, cameras, e-mail and the internet without permission from the authorities.

A recent UN report says that 6 out of every 10 people in the world use a mobile phone. But Burmese is the only political party in the world that has no telephone, no Internet or website in the 21st century! They have no permission to buy a cellphone, and are not permitted to own or even use an Internet line or aJustify Full laptop computer in Burma. If you live in Burma, you need permission from the authorities to buy a cell or land phone, a fax machine, an Internet line, computer, camera, satellite TV, or short-wave radio.

We must think why these people afraid of openness? We are having many examples of such people around us. Schools are afraid of making their account public! Why? Many Non Goverment Organisations, Local Self Govts will deny you their financial details! Why? Shopkeepers will not disclose real buying price of the goods! Manufacturers will keep production cost a big secret! Why?

But we are in new age. Flood of information will blast all such devil secrets & bring reality on the public platform. (Let's use Right to Information Act. & see the potato faces of concerned officers!) But in short what I want to say--- Let us bring light forward --- & darkness will disappear. Try to digg or fight with darkness... it will remain forever... & you will be finished. Openness is the cure of many ailments in the society.
